What content is taught
What content is taught in the LeanActivity Factory Game?
The Lean Factory Training Game is an interactive Lean simulation for team trainings and workshops. In a 4-hour session for up to 12 participants, you become the Lean Trainer. The learning content is structured into ten consecutive game rounds.
Game Round 1: Introduction to Lean Manufacturing 5 min
Understand the basics of Lean and the seven types of waste before the hands-on simulation starts.
Game Round 2: Standard Work 15 min
Start the first assembly sequence and get familiar with operator roles and work instructions.
Game Round 3: The 5S Workshop 30 min
Apply visualization, organization, and standardization in the first structured 5S workshop.
Game Round 4: The Lean Layout Workshop 15 min
Redesign the layout based on Lean principles and make material flow easier to understand.
Game Round 5: SMED Change-Over Workshop 30 min
Analyze the change-over process, map time losses, and improve setup activities step by step.
Game Round 6: Lean Logistics and Route Train 30 min
Replace unstable transport with a safer, more predictable route train supply concept.
Game Round 7: FIFO and Supermarket 30 min
Introduce supermarket logic and smoother material replenishment directly on the shop floor.
Game Round 8: Kanban and One-Piece Flow in Action 15 min
Reduce buffers between stations and expose bottlenecks immediately through pull and one-piece flow.
Game Round 9: Design for Manufacturing 15 min
Review the process from a broader customer and product perspective to remove avoidable waste.
Game Round 10: Final Group Discussion and Commitment 15 min
Reflect on the learning effects and translate the improvements into next steps for the team.

Game Round #1
Introduction to Lean Manufacturing
Imagine the LeanActivity Factory Game set up in the training room: participants enter, gather around the miniature factory, and get familiar with the production environment on the table. Before the first hands-on round begins, they receive a short introduction to Lean and the 8 types of waste.
This creates a shared understanding and prepares the group to experience Lean principles directly in the game.
Game Round #6
Lean Logistics: Implementing the Route Train
In a Lean factory, forklifts disappear from the shop floor. Instead, small material boxes, a supermarket, and a route train are introduced to supply each station in a safe, efficient, and standardized rhythm.
This shift reduces transport waste, prevents overstock at the workstations, and makes material flow predictable: the heartbeat of Lean production.
Game Round #8
Kanban and One-Piece Flow in Action
Reduce buffers between stations and introduce Kanban to control replenishment through a clear pull signal. Combined with one-piece flow, bottlenecks become visible immediately and the production process becomes easier to manage.
